Oracle Health Secures TEFCA QHIN Designation, Further Strengthening Interoperability Leadership

Oracle Health Information Network Achieves QHIN Designation

Oracle Health Information Network Inc., a subsidiary of Oracle, has officially been recognized as a Qualified Health Information Network® (QHIN™) as part of the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement™ (TEFCA™). This designation further solidifies Oracle Health’s longstanding commitment to enhancing interoperability within the healthcare sector. By engaging in a nationwide initiative, Oracle Health aims to ensure secure, efficient, and standardized health information sharing among all designated QHINs, as well as between healthcare providers, payers, and governmental bodies.

Advancing Interoperability in Healthcare

The Oracle Health Information Network is an essential addition to Oracle’s portfolio, designed to streamline interoperability for healthcare providers. Earlier this year, the company also expressed its support for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Digital Health Ecosystem and Interoperability Framework. With this new network, Oracle Health’s hospital and health system clients can enjoy a unified connection to the broader healthcare ecosystem, eliminating the necessity of engaging with multiple exchange networks. This integration fosters a consolidated and comprehensive understanding of patient data.

Oracle’s Commitment to Safe Data Sharing

“Achieving the status of a Designated QHIN is a significant milestone in Oracle’s dedication to enabling secure interoperability that prioritizes patient needs,” stated Seema Verma, executive vice president and general manager of Oracle Health and Life Sciences. She emphasized that data interoperability transcends technical achievements; it’s essential for addressing numerous challenges in healthcare, such as leveraging AI, enhancing care quality and outcomes, and promoting value-based care. The Oracle Health Information Network provides the necessary infrastructure to empower healthcare providers, public health officials, patients, and payers with secure access to data, thus improving care delivery, gaining insights into community health, and streamlining authorization and reimbursement processes.

Leveraging Cloud Technology for Enhanced Efficiency

Oracle Health Information Network operates on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), which offers advantages in scalability, reliability, security, and performance. This cloud-based solution facilitates quicker and more efficient health data sharing by minimizing reliance on third-party technologies that can complicate and slow down the process. Oracle Health clients can join the network without any associated costs by opting into the Oracle Health Information Network Terms of Participation through the Oracle Health Connection Hub, which does not require further setup, configuration, or consulting services.

Integrating Data for Better Patient Care

The Oracle Health Information Network provides a comprehensive perspective of patient data by aggregating information from various care settings. This integration supports more informed care decisions and helps reduce unnecessary, repetitive testing and clinical procedures. Additionally, the network can work seamlessly with Oracle Health Seamless Exchange, which compiles data from diverse sources, cleanses and deduplicates it, and integrates it into the Oracle Health Foundation electronic health record (EHR) and the next-generation Oracle Health EHR. This collaboration significantly decreases the time spent on data review and manual normalization while enhancing data integrity.

Managing Interoperability Services Effectively

Customers can utilize the Oracle Health Connection Hub to oversee their interoperability services, including the Oracle Health Information Network. This hub enables governance, auditing, and access reporting for interoperability efforts. “We are pleased to welcome Oracle Health Information Network as the newest Designated QHIN and are eager to extend the advantages of seamless health information exchange to a wider range of participants,” remarked Mariann Yeager, CEO of The Sequoia Project and lead for the TEFCA Recognized Coordinating Entity® (RCE®).
